Making it into the Roubaix velodrome and crossing the finish line for the craziest bike race in the world is a dream that came true for a group of guests who participated in the 2018 Wolfpack Bike Experience. All were able to rely on the advice and guidance of a cobblestone ace, Johan Museeuw. The lion of Flanders and three-time career winner of the Roubaix, Johan attended dinner with the guests and team on Thursday night. Then on Friday he led them on a recon ride along the Roubaix route.

“We had a great time,” explained Johan. “It was also very nice to experience the whole thing as if we were Deceuninck - Quick-Step riders. We got to ride in the motorhome, we got ready by sitting on the seats of champions and then we all got to ride on Specialized Roubaix bikes. It was brilliant!

After a visit to the team’s Service Course and dinner with the team and sports directors on Friday night, on Saturday morning the group participated in the Roubaix Challenge. They were also accompanied on the route by Andrea Tonti, an ex-rider who currently collaborates with the team through Bike Division Tour Operator.

It was an incredible weekend

On Sunday the guests got to ride in VIP shuttles, watching the race from the inside perspective of a team battling for victory. It was an incredible weekend," says Pierangelo. “We were in very close contact with the team and we enjoyed fantastic access. Now I understand why these guys win so many races. They are real, authentic! I never thought I’d be able to dine with them or to be able to get ready in the Motorhome or understand how operations work within a team…and it really happened! It’s an experience I will definitely try again.”

"Cycling is my passion. The chance to get an inside glimpse of the team that is considered unbeatable on cobblestones was priceless. These guys are incredible professionals but they are also very amiable. I ate with them, trained with them and experienced a few hours following them closely in such a significant race. In the end, I felt like I was a part of something important and I felt especially welcome in #TheWolfpack family!" Pierangelo explains.

The experience ended with an extra unscheduled visit to the team’s training facilities in Leuven, the Bakala Academy high performance center that assists team Deceuninck - Quick-Step.
